The effectiveness of 3 control measures applied at strategic points in the lamb infection pattern has been investigated by pasture larval counts, faecal egg counts, post-morterm worm counts and lamb weight gains. These measures consisted of anthelmintic treatment of the ewes at lambing, treatment of the lambs at weaning, and moving the lambs to clean pasure at weaning, the methods being tested singly and in combination. Ewe treatment or lamb treatment were eqaully effective when associated with a change of pasture at weaning but where the lambs were not moved the treatment of ewes at lambing was considerably more effective than dosiung the lambs themselves. No additional advantage was obtained when the two dosing treatments were combined. The influence of these control measures on the host parasite relationship is discussed. |
